OK, so you have probably heard of this place. Maybe if you are like us, you put off going because it sounds a bit trendy. Well, we finally went, and its awesome, especially for families with kids.
The White Duck Taco Shop has three Asheville locations. We recommend visiting the original on Riverside Drive. It is located in a semi-circular building in the River Arts District. It has lots of outdoor seating, and is less than a mile from the New Belgium Brewing Company (also very kid friendly). Make an afternoon of it, with a bit of kid-friendly brewery action, followed by one of the best kid friendly Asheville restaurants.


Upon arrival, you will be overwhelmed at your choices and will want to try everything.
If you approach this like us, you will order entirely too much, and try one of everything. That’s really the White Duck Taco Shop initiation. After that, no trip to Asheville will be complete without a return to this great kid friendly Asheville restaurant.

Farm Burger is an easy, fun place to grab lunch or dinner with kids in Asheville. Located a short walk from Pack Square, they serve locally sourced food in a fun, fast casual environment.




Most of their menu is variations on the burger. They have locally raised, grass-fed beef burgers, but also have house made vegan burgers, and chicken burgers.
They also serve some pretty killer milk shakes and have a great selection local draft beer.

Mellow Mushroom

If you have never been to a Mellow Mushroom, the Asheville location is the one to try. Awesome pizza, local beer flights, and house-made strawberry lemon limeade… What more is there to say?
Sitting inside is fun, and they have cool psychedelic theming. There is also a nice patio if you want to enjoy people watching. Mellow Mushroom is one of the best kid friendly Asheville restaurants for sure.

Wicked Weed

Wicked Weed is not only a great Asheville brewery, but a great restaurant that is kid-friendly. They have high-chairs, crayons and coloring books for kids.




They serve all of the brewpub staples like pretzels, burgers, and wings. They also have kid staples like mac and cheese and grilled cheese. Overall, if you are looking for a brewery to get lunch as a family, this is a great choice.
Note, this place gets crowded. We recommend going when they first open on the weekend, or during the week at an off hour.

If you are looking for a nice meal in downtown Asheville that is classy, Southern, and kid-friendly, Tupelo Honey is the perfect restaurant. Tupelo Honey first opened its doors in 2000 in downtown Asheville with a mission to serve scratch made and responsibly sourced food to its guests.


Indoor and outdoor seating is comfortable, lively, and great for families looking for a nice meal with their kids. With mac and cheese, buttermilk waffles, fried chicken, and buttered noodles, any kid will be in Southern paradise at this restaurant. Adults will love the drink selection, and the rich classic Southern staples after spending a day in the outdoors.


Tupelo Honey hits the best of both worlds – great cocktails in a classy environment, but loud and bustling with a broad kids menu.

Twisted Laurel

The Twisted Laurel is a great place to go out for a nice meal with kids. The outdoor seating is their real draw, with a nice patio across the street from Pack Square Park.
Their menu is Mediterranean, and very approachable to families. They have a variety of pizzas and handcrafted pasta. Kids menu has good options like grilled chicken and grilled trout, in addition to burger and grilled cheese standards.
Our kids love the Devil’s Foot sparkling lemonades when in Asheville, and these were on the menu.

Rhubarb

Located in the center of Downtown Asheville, if you are looking to enjoy an upscale meal with kids, Rhubarb is the perfect restaurant. We went here for brunch, which we loved.
This restaurant is the brainchild of chef John Fleer who was executive chef at Blackberry Farm for over ten years. Food is locally sourced, and fresh dishes like barley berry risotto, and sumac and rhubarb duck confit can be found on the menu.
While this place is more high end, they welcome kids with a kids menu with staples like grilled cheese and chicken tenders. It is down the street from the French Broad Chocolate Lounge which is a great hold out if the kids behave at dinner.
